The Village of Marcellus Council accepted the bid by Borden Waste Away for Residential garbage and recycling collection in their December 28, 2023 Council meeting.  LRS won the bid for the Commercial & residential dumpster service for this new 5 year contract, that came in at lower rates.  All occupied residential properties in the Village of Marcellus will be added to this new provider, Borden, starting 2/9/2024.  Recycling is included in all Cart service but will be picked up every other week starting Friday 2/9.  LRS residential & business garbage roll carts will be removed January 30-31 to be swapped out with new Borden carts on Saturday February 3rd.  The new rates for single carts was lowered by this switch, however if you have multiple carts, there will be a slight increase.  Borden’s garbage roll cart & recycling pick-up will switch to Fridays but dumpster pick-up will remain the same on Tuesdays & Fridays ( for the second pick-up).  Borden’s bid also included optional spring & fall cleanup services which replaces the bulk-item service previously included in residential garbage pick-up.

The Village of Marcellus Council will hold a Special meeting on Feb. 6, 2024 at 7:00pm for a public hearing on the MSHDA Community Development Block Grant Housing Improving Local Livability (CHILL) program. 

The Village of Marcellus proposes to request $483,000 in CDBG funds to pay for homeowner rehabilitation of existing housing to preserve the affordable housing stock in Marcellus.  The entire amount is intended to benefit low & moderate income residents and no resident will be displaced as a result of the proposed activities.

Construction began in April 2023 on the west side of town with water main replacements.   Then on West Dibble and West Arbor new service lines were put in and are hooked up to the new or existing water main.  Crews are working on Woodland and Dibble on the east side of town while at the same time replacing service lines on West Main from Adams to Jones.  The plumbers, SWT  or BT Piping & Plumbing, are scheduling the appointments with residents directly for water hook-up to the new service lines.  Restoration of lawns and sidewalks dug up in the Water project are underway with many complete. If you have any issues on your property related to the water project, contact the Village and the contractors will address issues as quickly as possible. New water lines have a one year warranty from installation.  After replacement the property owner is responsible for the water service line maintenance from the shut-off box to their home, just as they were before this state mandated service line replacement project.  See the map for proposed construction dates on your street at this link. Since the addition of the online Village of Marcellus utility bills program through BS&A Software, 192 businesses & residents have signed up for paperless billing. You can view, make a one time payment or schedule your auto payment via credit card, debit card, your bank account, google or apple pay.  The best online deal is to pay your bill is via EFT from your bank account with a modest fee of $1.95 per payment. (Credit/debit fees are 3.5% of the amount paid) Residents & businesses that pay online, your due date time is extended to 11:59 pm on the 20th. Follow the link when you click on the “Pay Utilities Bill” icon to access the payment portal.  

If you are behind on utility payments, you are urged to seek assistance from one of the programs listed below if eligible and to contact the Village Hall to set up a payment plan.

MIHAF- Michigan Homeowner Assistance Fund – For homeowners with financial hardship due to Covid-19 pandemic. They can help with utilities, property taxes, mortgages, land contract and more.
