Please remember to flush only toilet paper, throw other paper products in the trash.
The Village of Marcellus along with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is reminding everyone that there are only three things that should be flushed down the toilet: The three “Ps”: toilet paper, pee and poo.
Those are the only things that should ever be flushed down a toilet. Flushing other paper products can lead to basement sewage backups in your home and create costly problems for homeowners and local wastewater treatment plants. MOST of you are doing a good job keeping these non-flushable items (so-called “flushable” wipes are NOT flushable despite being labeled as such.) out of our sewer system, as evidenced by the lift station basket not being over filled with these items after the weekend. There were some! Some may be catching in the sewer mains and not making it to the lift station and we will not know it until you have a problem with sewage backing up into your homes or the pumps are plugged and need to be pulled for cleaning or replaced which costs YOU money!
Our community health is important – remember to put non-toilet paper products in the garbage and not flush them down the toilet.
